Max Schulman appointed to the EFSA Management Board

10.07.2026

Max Schulman, Senior Advisor for Cereals, Oilseeds and Protein Crops at the Central Union of Agricultural Producers and Forest Owners (MTK) and a farmer from Finland, has been appointed as a member of the Management Board of the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), representing European farmers’ organizations. The appointment will take effect in autumn 2026.

Schulman brings nearly 40 years of practical farming experience and extensive expertise in EU agricultural policy, market issues and regulatory matters related to crops, plant protection, fertilizers and seeds. He has served as the Crop Sectors Senior Advisor at MTK for almost 20 years.

Throughout his career, Schulman has held several leading positions in European and national agricultural organizations, including multiple chairmanships within Copa-Cogeca working parties and advisory roles in European Commission market observatories.

As a member of the EFSA Management Board, he will contribute a strong combination of practical farming knowledge, governance experience and an ability to bridge science, policy and agricultural practice. EFSA is responsible for providing independent scientific advice and risk assessment on food and feed safety within the European Union.

– Having spent nearly four decades farming, I know how important it is that scientific expertise and practical agricultural experience go hand in hand. I am pleased to have the opportunity to contribute to EFSA’s work and to represent the voice of European farmers at the Management Board level, Max Schulman says.
